Free tours of Prague to celebrate International Tourist Guide Day

16.2.2019 — On the 23rd of February 2019, the Czech Republic Guides Association will offer free guided tours to celebrate the International Tourist Guide Day. The International Tourist Guide Day is held annually on the 21st of February since 1985. Because the 21st is a Thursday, tour guides in most places decided to give free guided tours on Friday the 22nd or Saturday the 23rd of February. The event will take place throughout the Czech Republic. In Prague, tourists will have a choice between two guided tours.

Outdoor exhibition of selected photos from the Czech Nature Photo competition

4.10.2020 — Visitors to the Ekocetrum Prales (meaning 'rainforest') in the Kbely district of Prague can admire an outdoor exhibition of selected photographs from this year's Czech Nature Photo competition until the end of October. 'Lesy hl. m. Prahy' (Prague City Forests) became one of the partners of the competition this year and the pictures have already been exhibited in the Wild Garden Hostivař.

Summer art exhibition in the Škoda Palace

The painter exhibits regularly in the Škoda Palace, one of Prague City Hall's buildings, in recent years. This time, she selected paintings inspired by exhibits of the National Technical Museum in Prague in Letná.

3.6.2014 — Vytříbeně a s originalitou se rozloučí jeden z klíčových orchestrů české hudební scény, PKF – Prague Philharmonia, se svou jubilejní 20. koncertní sezonou. Poté, co ve čtvrtek exceloval na prestižním festivalu Pražské jaro, posluchačům v rámci svého závěrečného koncertu naservíruje díla čtyř autorů, která jsou spojována s opojnými tóny jazzu. Hvězdou slavnostního večera, který těleso pořádá ve středu 4. června od 19.30 hodin ve Dvořákově síni Rudolfina, se stane proslulý saxofonista Philippe Portejoie, jenž je považován za jednoho z největších světových interpretů hry na saxofon. V čele orchestru se představí charismatický a mezinárodně uznávaný dirigent Leo Hussain a pod svou taktovkou upomene skladatele věhlasných jmen; Rudolfinum tak prodchnou melodie Bohuslava Martinů, Jacoba Ter Veldhuise, Jacquese Iberta a Daria Milhauda.

Prague Castle displays newly purchased paintings by Kamil Lhoták

11.2.2019 — For almost 11 million CZK, Prague Castle Administration bought two paintings by the well-known Czech painter Kamil Lhoták (1912-1990). The paintings will be exhibited at the Picture Gallery at the 2nd Courtyard of Prague Castle until February 28th.

A new vineyard on the slopes of Vítkov in Prague

18.12.2019 — There is much more to Prague than well-known tourist attractions like Hradčany and Wenceslas Square. For example, the Czech capital currently has a total number of fourteen vineyards within its borders. The most famous are St. Clare's Vineyard and Salabka Vineyard in Troja, Máchalka Vineyard in Vysočany, and Grébovka in Prague 2. The new vineyard in the park in Vítkov is a recent addition.

10.2.2019 — The exhibition of the famous American filmmaker, cinematographer and artist Arthur Jafa can now be seen at the Galerie Rudolfinum. It is his first exhibition in the Czech Republic. Arthur Jafa creates images of African-American identity and culture through a broad spectrum of contemporary footage and found images. The exhibition's title, 'A Series of Utterly Improbable, Yet Extraordinary Renditions', refers to the feeling of emptiness that characterizes black life, according to Jafa.

Rare Chacoan peccary offspring in Prague Zoo mean hope for world breeding

16.6.2019 — At the beginning of May, two rare Chacoan peccary piglets (called Wagner's peccary in Czech from their scientific name Catagonus wagner) were born in Prague Zoo. Now visitors can see them with their parents in outside enclosure at the top of the zoo. This is a great zoological event: the Chacoan peccary has existed since prehistoric times and was only known from archaeological evidence until the 1970s.

Prague adds QR codes to public lamppost identification signs

28.6.2020 — Prague City Technology has been adding QR codes to the metal identification tags on public lighting, which will make it easier to report a lighting issue or an illegal advertisement. The codes will help emergency workers, as well as residents and tourists, navigate Prague.
